Ronald McDonald House Family Retreat

Ronald McDonald House Charities Western Australia is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing vital support programs for families with sick or injured children.

RMHC WA introduced the very first Ronald McDonald House in Western Australia in Subiaco in 1990. While our original House is no longer running, since then, we have opened the doors to our state-of-the-art 47 bedroom House in Nedlands, and a 14 bedroom House inside Perth Children’s Hospital.

Through our supported accommodation and wraparound services, we strive to keep families together when life gets turned upside down due to a child’s illness.

Our Ronald McDonald Houses and Programs are run by a tirelessly hard working team of staff and volunteers, aided by the generous support of our donors, sponsors and corporate partners.

Make-A-Wish

Make-A-Wish creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Our mission is to grant the wish of every eligible child – a quest sparked by the belief that a wish is integral to a child’s treatment.

A wish is not a fleeting gift - each child's Wish Journey is carefully planned and delivered over several stages to create a positive, lasting impact.

Wishes are designed to complement a child's medical treatment, working to calm, distract and inspire at a time they need it most.

When a wish is realised, a child discovers that despite their situation, anything is possible.

In this way, wishes deliver both an immediate boost and long lasting effect on the lives of sick kids, their families and communities.

Changing Places

It is a basic human right to be able to access a clean, safe, and private place to go to the toilet.
A Changing Places toilet facility allows people with high support needs to participate in all elements of community life, without having to limit their time out due to concerns about being able to access a suitable toilet.

Changing Places enable many people with high support needs to enjoy day-to-day activities that many of us take for granted, such as going to work, school or university, playing in the park, or attending cultural, sporting, or social and family events.

Without Changing Places toilets, many people are unable to fully immerse themselves in the community, not out of choice, but because of a lack of suitable public toilets.

Changing Places facilities include:

  • a height-adjustable adult-sized change table

  • a constant-charging ceiling track hoist system

  • a centrally-located peninsula toilet

  • additional circulation space more than standard accessible toilets

  • an automatic door with a clear opening of 950 mm at a minimum

  • and a privacy screen.
